It also binds to bile acids in the intestine, prompting the liver to draw cholesterol from the blood to make more bile. Practical Ways to Close the Fibre Gap

- Eat fruit whole: Whole fruit retains fibre that is stripped out in juice. An apple, for example, provides roughly 4–5 grams of fibre; apple juice provides almost none.
- Don't peel unnecessarily: A significant portion of fibre in potatoes, cucumbers, and carrots sits just under or in the skin.
- Increase gradually: Jumping from low to high fibre intake too quickly can cause gas and bloating. A gradual increase over several weeks — alongside consistent hydration — is more comfortable.
